S.T.A.N.D. (Students Taking A New Direction) is a 9-session small-group program for boys in grades 3-8 who display impulsive and/or defiant behaviors. It is designed to help these boys discover and re-direct their inner strengths, make more positive choices and take a new direction with their behavior. Each session starts with an introductory warm-up physical activity followed by an engaging, insight-building lesson.
Sessions include an overview, activity procedures, discussion questions, follow-up journaling, and parent notes to increase home conversations about the insights learned in the group. The physical activities are optional and designed so that each boy is competing against himself. Between-session practice of the physical activities and personal strengths is encouraged.
